The geofencing is what sold me. My wife and I both have demanding jobs and there were nights we would get home and realize the alarm had been off all day. With Abode, it arms automatically when the last phone leaves and disarms when the first one arrives. We have not manually armed or disarmed in over a year.
Beyond the alarm, I use the Security Kit as a full smart home hub. Connected a Z-Wave Schlage deadbolt, two GE light switches, and a GoControl garage controller — all through the Abode gateway. The CUE automation engine handles schedules for porch lights, locks the front door at 10pm, and opens the garage when I pull into the driveway based on geofence.
The self-monitoring option at $0/month is what got me in the door, but I switched to pro monitoring after our insurer knocked 12% off our homeowners premium for having a monitored system. At $6/month, that discount more than pays for itself.

I bought this because it offered real flexibility: I can use gear from many other vendors alongside Abode's own accessories, and I love having the choice to self-monitor with no monthly fee or go with professional monitoring at a reasonable price (I went with pro monitoring since it gets me a discount on my homeowners insurance).
But the standout feature is geofencing. My wife and I don't have to worry about remembering to arm the system when we leave. With geofencing, it just turns on automatically, and when one of us comes home, it switches off — no scrambling to a keypad to disarm. The result? Whenever we're not home, the alarm is always on.
