Abode October 08, 2021

Awooooo! Halloween is just around the corner! Are you ready to decorate your home, scare trick or treaters, and hand out some candy?

If you have an Abode system and haven’t spruced up your home yet for the darkest celebration of the year, we’ve got some tips on how you can leverage your smart home security system to throw the perfect trick or treating experience!

Light up your outdoor decorations once it gets dark

So, you’ve decked windows with scary decorations, jack-o’-lanterns, and spooky lights. But you know what, you can actually turn those lights on automatically once the sun sets and or when it gets dark so you don’t have to manually flick a switch to turn them on.

Add an Abode Smart Home Power Switch to your Abode system and plug your lanterns and spooky lights to it. Once plugged in, you can run time-based automations that turn on your lights at sunset or at a preferred time in the evening.

This switch can work in tandem with an Abode Multi Sensor added to your Abode system. Apart from sensing motion, temperature, and humidity, it also senses the amount of light in an area. Once the sensor detects that it’s completely dark outside, it can automatically turn on your lights then turn them off in the morning when the sun shines.

Use smart bulbs to create spooky lighting

Spook those trick or treaters when they step on your lawn by lighting up your home with some scary colors thanks to smart bulbs from Philips HUE or LIFX. Flood it with purple, orange and green Halloween colors.

If integrated to your Abode system, you can also set automations for these smart bulbs to light up on a scheduled time or light up when your smart cameras capture movement on your lawn. Those trick or treaters would surely be surprised when the house suddenly lights up as they approach the front door.

Play scary sounds using smart speakers

Up the ante in your scare tactics by playing spooky sounds using smart speakers from Bose or Sonos. Integrated these smart speakers to your Abode system and just like your trick with the smart bulbs, you can automatically play spooky sounds from these speakers when your door sensor is triggered by opening your front door to give out candy to trick or treaters.

This Halloween, make trick or treating in your house the talk of the town the following day by leveraging on your Abode system to give it the scariest tricks and the coolest vibes!
